Current rules for private parties?
« on: Monday 10 August 20 09:18 BST (UK) »
We were hoping to celebrate our Golden Wedding on 12th September with a private gathering of friends in our own home. I have looked carefully at the rules but am not much the wiser.
What is the current situation for such an event , which would be spread between the house and the garden? Is this a runner or not?
Any views welcome.

Up to 2 households - max 30 people - can meet indoors.

I think it's max 6 from different households in your garden.

Unless you are in an area with local restrictions.

I googled Gov.uk coronavirus rules & found a page of frequently asked questions, sorry can't do links

Just about everyone I talk to has given up trying to understand "the rules" as they change almost daily and often seem to defy logic and to make matters worse politicians regularly make statements that appear to be inconsistent with the rules. Add to that as I live in Scotland there is confusion as to whether a rule applies in Scotland, England, both or whatever. One thought is that if you "borrow" the garden of a friendly next door neighbour you double your outdoor capacity

Hopefully you will be able to have a great get together and have a wonderful Golden wedding.

I think it would be too many households mixing sadly, certainly indoors.

Maybe strictly limit your guest list for the actual date so you can at least celebrate in some way then later on have a larger gathering if conditions allow.

I've been working on the premise of "if in doubt don't do it".  Not much help I know.  I have been going to work, going to shop when absolutely essential.  I will go out for fresh air if it looks quiet enough and I will be taking my children to school tis week as they need their education.

For those who want gatherings, it's difficult.  It's impossible to predict weeks in advance whether local restrictions will be put in place or not.

Scotland, phase three, up to 15 peeps outdoors, from 5 different households! the rules on social distancing are constantly reviewed as the plague retreats. When confused try Google!

My friend did a 90th for her sister, spaced them all out in her garden in their own family groups at their own tables, seemed to work well but I am not sure what the numbers will be by September

How about having the number you are allowed and have another do a bit later when things settle down

Thanks for all the useful comments. I think we will just have a close family gathering on 12th with something a little more ambitious later, conditions permitting.
