Rootschat has a no living persons policy so you need to remove the daughters details from your post

...can find no records.

It is unlikely that you will find much in the public domain as these events are too recent and the NT Registry is the only place that has access to the indexes and records.  You need to get back to 100 years ago for births and 75 years for marriages before you can access other peoples's records.

I'm not sure what you are after, but these are the few possibilities I could find for Mary:

Could Mary have been a bit younger i.e. born in 1926: https://billiongraves.com/grave/Mary-Frances-Surman/13370755 (also: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/153252551/mary-frances-surman )
Note: The other person Petronella BAIRD was 48y when she died, so born abt 1906. You’d suspect that she might have been Mary’s mother.

In 1974 (cyclone Tracy), Mary SURMAN/SURMON is mentioned as an evacuee with her DARLING daughter, a possible DARLING grandson(?) and Mary’s younger sister M****** BAIRD.

Mary Francis SURMAN and her daughter are living at the same address in the 1977 Port Darwin ER

Are you telling me that there were 2 Mary Bairds in the Darwin area with a daughter born around the same time and who both married someone with the surname Darling?

Or, ... could it be her sister that you are referring to?
