Over 60% of WW1 service records were burnt in the WW2 blitz.  Have looked on Ancestry etc - nothing found

It appears that his army file has not survived.

I can see that his gratuity was paid to Dorcas Roberts, his sole legatee.

The Wardrobe (the Museum) do not have soldiers' records.  They do however have the war diaries transcribed and the pages can be viewed here:

https://www.thewardrobe.org.uk/research/war-diaries

The war diary can also be downloaded free at the moment, you just have to register, from the National Archives :http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7352495  The diary has a detailed account of the action of 2 Dec 1917.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

From his service number it would appear that he enlisted in August 1916.
