My Great Uncle and his wife are both listed as incapacitated on the 1939 census. They were in their 70's. Does this just mean that they were unfit?

I think it more likely they were bed ridden, or not able move around without help.

Another thought, bearing in mind there was no NHS and many could not afford spectacles or huge hearing aids they may have been putting up with the perils of old age.

In their 70s then, they have both exceeded the average life expectancy at the time
