WW2 HMS Indefatigable R.S.Clarke
« on: Friday 14 August 20 19:20 BST (UK) »
Any help would be so appreciated.
My husbands grandad Roland Sidney Clarke (Nobby Clarke) born 1923 in Leicester, Served on the hms indefatigable towards the end if WW2 we think as a petty officer or something electrical as he was an electrician after the war. The only things he mentioned was sitting on a beach in Australia and the Japanese planes hitting the deck. Never ever talked about it. Both Roland and his grandma died over 20 years ago, along with most of the family now. With next to nothing to go on, how would we go about finding out his service number, where he went, we also think he had medals but never applied for them.
I know its a long shot, but any help would be greatly received.  :)

The family can, subject to the Ts and Cs apply for his service record.  As long as you have his date of birth (and the other requirements) you don't need his service number.https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records

When you have his record you should be able to find where each ship he served on went and when.  The record will show his medals.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Very appropriate for your husband to remember his grandfather today. 75th anniversary of VJ Day.
