1841 Census Districts
« on: Saturday 15 August 20 05:04 BST (UK) »
Good morning

I am looking for the area of Burnley or surrounding area which comes under H107 508/7. It generally comes under Whalley. There is a National Archives website which lists all of the districts but I am not able to access the above location.

The census residence note says Pendle Mill but I would like to know the actual area that 508/7 covers, please.

Thank you.

Kind regards
Amanda

Do you mean the description of the area the census taker walked, which is at the beginning of HO 508/7?
If so you just need to page back to that page.

It’s a part of the township of Habergham Eaves

The actual reference you are looking for is HO107/508/7.
HO = Home Office, who organised the 1841 and 1851 censuses.
Piece No. is 508.
Folio is 7.

(Later censuses were organised by the Register General's Office - so have a Class Code of RG)
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

In 1841 the reference also included a Book number which I believe is the '7'  you mean when quoting ref 508/7

Later census did not have book numbers so the '7' would relate to the folio number.

Perfect, thank you. Exactly what I was looking for. Habergham Eaves is a huge area but this narrows it down so much that I can now identify the neighbourhood. I would not have known it was Reedley Hallows which, to my knowledge, is outside of Habergham Eaves which is the other end of Burnley. Reedley Hallows is closer to Higham, Sabden, Wheatley Lane etc.
