19 messages from Ancestry in one day
« on: Saturday 15 August 20 06:24 BST (UK) »
I have had 19 messages from Ancestry today.

I checked the first 5 and they all wanted my email address to send photos or documents.

All are new members? Is it my lucky day or is it a scam?????

I had 55 new messages yesterday according to the envelope icon on the top bar.

When I checked all were messages I had previously received and responded to but they had been highlighted as new.

I assume it is something related to the new Ancestry messaging system that has recently kicked in.

Are they all from the same family line, or different ones? And are the messages just on Ancestry's site or come through to your email inbox?

tedscout~

This is all very strange. I'd be tempted to say that they were spam.

I've not had any, either by e-mail or through the Ancestry messaging system.  Everything looks normal for me.

Have you contacted Ancestry to ask if they are genuine?

Mine are all through the Ancestry site itself, I had no notification in my personal email which I shouldn't have had because actually they were not new, some were really quite old.

Am sure it is something to do with the new messaging system.

I simply scanned down the list, clicked on those that were in bold font (as being unread) and this seems to have set the system back to normal - no new messages.

If fredscout hasn't had these messages before (and how many of us have 19 messages across many years wanting to share photos?), I'm with Gadget and think it sounds suspicious.
