Searching a matches tree
« on: Saturday 15 August 20 11:20 BST (UK) »
When I list all my DNA matches, I can then click search and either search on a surname in a matches tree or a birth location or a combination of the two.
If I search on surname, then open the tree of one of the results, it is very easy to get a list of people with that surname.
But if I search on birth location only and get a list of trees which have someone born in that place, is there anyway of searching their tree just on location to get a list of people?
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

If you scroll down past trees it says ancestor location and smetimes you will get a yellow tag with a number showing ancestors frm shared locations

It doesnt seem to work consistently

Thanks, I've noticed that occasionally, but as you say it doesn't always work

After searching by location.
I always use the map, choose their tree than zoom in on the area I'm interested in. It's worth have a look around at others on the map as Ancestry's matching of address to map can be quite dodgy.

edited to add, to be fair to Ancestry sometimes the address the tree owner is using is fairly dodgy as well.
