Thanks Boo,

Ordered what replacements I can - census CDs etc - but in these strange times it takes an age to arrive.

Thanks again for all your help.

Commiserations on the loss of your research material - a real blow.

The Welsh language newsaper Y Drych, 6 Mar 1884 carries a death notice -

"February 7th, in St Austin's Mount, Grassendale, 64 years old, the Rev Robert Thomas. For 27 years he was a minister in the English Presbyterian Church at Garston. Mr Thomas was a son of the late Mr Thomas, Isholen".

There's a longer report of the funeral itself in the Welsh language paper Y Goleuad, 16 Feb 1884.

Welsh journals  https://journals.library.wales

Click on link and enter search key as   thomas AND garston
Use year slider bar to restrict to 1884 - 18 hits some of which are your Robert and in English.

Morning Hanes teulu,

Thanks for the wealth of information - one puzzle; St Austin's, Grassendale, Liverpool, was a Roman Catholic church with graveyard. Would a Presbyterian minister be buried there? Or is St Austin's Mount something entirely different.

Anyone in Liverpool able to help?

Being an "Annibynnwr/Independent" myself, it threw we when I started to check out "St Austin's Mount" before posting and a Catholic Church popped up!!. I didn't delve deeply, suspecting St Austin's Mount was an address/institution in the locale and was going to return to the search later.
Dismissed a "death bed conversion" seeing the attendance of the great and the good of the Non-conformist world at his funeral.

I can see a Mary Lamb at No 16 Aigburth Road on the 1881 Census - Robert was at No.4.
