Army Graves in India
« on: Friday 21 August 20 09:40 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to help someone who's relative drowned in 1937 whilst serving with the British Army; the death being registered in Jubbulpore.

Assuming the body was found, which we believe it was, how can we find out where he was buried, please?  And how likely is it that there's a gravestone?

Any pointers [to other websites] would be helpful.

Thanks
Pamela

Hi
Have found a report of the death by drowning of a soldier in India in 1937, he was 21 and with the Royal Artillery..initials J .H.B. It mentions where he was buried in the article.
If this might be him  I can give details by pm.

Hi

Have found the soldier and burial on the FIBIS site he appears to be  buried in Bilhari Cantonment Cemetery, Jabalpur.(It was not the soldier above)
Not sure about gravestones, perhaps someone knows more.

Sometimes soldiers are buried where they are killed/died.

Off topic, sorry, and maybe barryd's comment would be relevant - but where would soldiers who died in the 1857 conflict be buried? My g g grandfather's brother, in the 87th Regiment together, was killed then.
