Alexander GIBSON
« on: Saturday 22 August 20 02:26 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone I'm looking for some information on the above ALEXANDER GIBSON who married MARGARET WILLIAMSON?? Not sure of date.  Alexander was born c 1873 had at least one daughter I know of ISABELLA GIBSON b c 1901. The family came here to NSW and Alexander enlisted in WW1, served and returned to Australia safely. Therefore arrived in Aus between 1901 and c1916??

I'm still hunting here for his death record and I have found nothing on Family search as yet.  Isabella/e GIBSON married THOMAS HENNESS in NSW in 1922 at the age of 21.  Father is not listed as deceased on this certificate.

Any information on the family would be great thanks.  Kindest regards Dianna from Aus

His Military record says he was 44 years and 6month old, and born in Paisley, Scotland  when signing up in May 1917, so possibly born around Nov 1872 Paisley (Renfrewshire).

Possible:

1940:   Death registered  Canterbury NSW of Alexander GIBSON, father: William, mother Isabella.

1940: Funeral Notice for Alexander Gibson published in the Sun, Sydney 25 Aug 1940:
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother
Late of 55 McKern Street, Campsie
Funeral 25 Aug 1940, Crematorium Rookwood Crematorium
Relatives and Friends invited to intend of:
Mrs Margaret Gibson
Mr & Mrs J Frame
Mr & Mrs S Henness (sic)
Mr & Mrs W Gibson
Mr & Mrs B Gibson
Mr & Mrs A Gibson
Mrs W Mabbett
Mrs B Shaw

Looking a Marriage NSW:
Mary Gibson and James M Frame married Redfern 1920
Jane Gibson and William A Mabbett married Sydney 1920

Cheers

I can’t see a marriage in Scotland.

Possibly one child born in NSW:

26259/1913 GIBSON Alexander parents ALEXANDER and MAGGIE SYDNEY

Possible death of son, William:

3272/1959 GIBSON William parents ALEXANDER and MARGARET NEWTOWN

Parents possibly:

Issue of William Gibson & Isabella Gemmell,  who were born Eastwood, Renfrewshire
Isabella Gibson 6 Feb 1868
Alexander Gibson, b 7  Mar 1870
Benjamin Gibson 25 Jun 1872
Jane 26 May 1874

Which would mean Alexander downed his age when he joined up WW1, if he was really born 1870.

I can see this William Gibson in Scotland Census 1871 & 1881,  Dianna - do you need help with details of what we can find if we run with this family?  Or are you OK now you have a 'lead' :-)

I think the whole family arrived in Queensland on 16 March 1884 on the ship Shannon.  But that mother Isabella had died in Scotland btw 1871 and 1881 and father William than remarried by 1881 to a woman named Agnes.

Possibly them in 1911:

573/1 50/ 20 Paisley Renfrew

Alexander 39
Maggie 38
Mary 13
Bella 10
William 5
Benjimin 2

GIBSON Isabella 1901 573/1 939 Paisley

GIBSON William 1906 573/1 210 Paisley

GIBSON BENJAMIN 1909 573/1 1322 Paisley

Hi Ambly, jamjar.  Thanks so much for all of these details, wonderful to have.  If there is anything else you can find that would be wonderful as I cannot seem to access the relevant census' you mentioned.  Other than that, I know we can only go so far with the ancestors but great to know.  Many thanks Dianna
