Is there a 1928 Electoral Roll of Cork?
« on: Saturday 22 August 20 10:40 BST (UK) »
Is there an accessible 1928 electoral roll of Cork?

I have the address of 14 Rock Buildings, Blarney Street, Cork,on an Oct 1928 passenger list to Australia.

Is there anyway to tell who else was living at this address please.

Don't know of any electoral roll for Cork online but had a look at the newspapers and there is one result for that full address and as luck would have it, it's for 1928.

Irish Examiner Jan 5 1928
Ellen Murphy (address) was suing an insurance company re the life of Denis Murphy deceased.

I'll play around with the address see if anything more comes up.

Edit Denis was her grandson, policy taken out 1925, he died a year and half later.

Only other result is a Mrs O'Connell general dealer in 1905.

Denis Murphy's death cert

Edit again, found a tiny bit more, Ellen was living at that address in Oct 1924.

Am I right in thinking that legal adoption did not happen in Ireland until the 1950's?

The person I am tracing was born in the workhouse on 2nd March 1912,his name was Michael Cotter (to single mum Mary Cotter).

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01pue/

We were told that he was 'adopted' by the Murphy family, and in Oct 1928 he travelled to Australia on his own aged just 15 as Michael Murphy. The address on the passenger list was 14 Rock Buildings Blarney Street Cork.

Which was only 15 months after Denis Murphy died age 19 at the same address.
I am trying to pinpoint him and his gran Ellen in 1911 in a bid to try and prove the link between the Cotter's and the Murphy's.

Yes that's correct. Northern Ireland introduced it about 1927 along with England but in the Republic of Ireland it was the early 1950s.
