WW1 Territorial Force medal for serving overseas.
« on: Saturday 22 August 20 12:06 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out if Albert Alexander Allison of the Northern Cyclists Battalion (service number 1542) was awarded to Territorial Service medal. His surviving service record indicates that he joined the Expeditionary Force in France on the 26 July 1916 prior to being transferred into the regulary army in September 1916.

The web site 'The Genealogist' shows three listings for an Albert A Allison in receipt of the said medal. However, I can not access these as I do not subscribe to the said web site (I already subscribe to three other sites!!)

Hope someone can help.

Looking at his record it seems he joined just a little too late to qualify for the basic requirement that he should either:

have been serving with the Territorial Force on 4 August 1914 or
have served 4 years before 4 August 1914 and had rejoined on of before 30 Sep 1914.

He enlisted on a 4 year Territorial engagement on 14 December 1914.

As an aside, although 25 Northumberland Fusiliers and 2 West Riding Regiment were not Territorial Force battalions, he was still serving under the terms of his TF engagement, he was never a regular soldier.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

It's a bit misleading. The Genealogist's default search is for phonetic matches and If I search for "Albert A Allison" with keyword "territorial" it shows me 5 matches, all of which have an initial A but none of which include the name Albert. None of them are your man.

The only hit for Allison with keyword 1542 is his MIC.

Thank you both for your replies.

MaxD - I wasn't aware of the requirements that you have listed, thank you.
