What was Ernest’s exact birthdate please? (In case he was already born by the time of the 1881 census).

He can’t have been far off as he seems to have been baptised on 10 April 1881.

Thank you. I don’t have the details with me (the birth certificate is at home and I’m away on holiday), but the birth is listed in the Jan-March register 1881.

Per newspaper reports, Henry Charles Manners (H C Manners) was Receiver of Wrecks for Cowes from February 1881 or before. I can't find him in the 1881 census as yet.

Further research reveals that this man was Henry Christopher Manners - it appears that the 1884 newspaper report got his name wrong. Born circa 1844 in Hartlepool, a Collector of Customs.
