How to find out if someone was a submariner
« on: Tuesday 25 August 20 14:12 BST (UK) »
One of my friends has decided that he would like to find out if a story about his dad is true - that he was a submariner.

My friend did not grow up with his dad and many of  the stories he was told have subsequently turned out to be untruths. He died in 1989. His name was Raymond Marshal Pickles (19/12/1923).

Where do I need to look to find out if he was a submariner? There is no other information such as dates or places.

TIAx
Devon: Chugg, Lerwill, Richards
Durham: Caswell, Charlton, Gustard
Hampshire: Dowdell, Hagg, Ludlow, Joliffe
Northumberland: Dagg, Turnbull
Somerset: Amesbury, Sage

The only way to find out would be to order a copy of his Royal Navy records. See https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records
