Hard to Read Irish Parish Marriage Record from 1876
« on: Thursday 27 August 20 10:57 BST (UK) »
Hi

I wonder if anyone can please help me decipher this entry of an Irish parish marriage record from County Monaghan in Ireland, 1876.

I've searched for ages to find my great grandparents' marriage record (even in the Irish Civil Records which started way before their marriage in 1864) but without success until I manually and laboriously trawled through on-line manuscripts page by page, and came across this one.

I suddenly saw a flash of what I think might be the right information, but despite much enlarging and squinting, I've been unable to fully read the entry as it is so faint.

Intentionally, I haven't provided any of the subject or place names as I'd really like a totally objective interpretation ..... if this is at all possible, given the poor quality!

If anyone can assist I would be most grateful.

Looking forward and thanking in anticipation.

Are you able to provide a (much) higher quality image? The writing here is small and pixelated when I try to enlarge it.

Hi Dublin 1850

It should be the Magheracloone Parish in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan.  I'm pretty sure it's 1876.

Hi Simsam

Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to enhance it any more.  I was hoping someone might have some super-duper method or tool for doing that.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Many thanks to both!

Regards

I think the groom might be Terentius (Terence).
Looks at josey's cleaned up version, groom possibly from Dooagh (now Doagh).

Yes, well done, dublin1850; other witness surname Martin.

I suggest a browse [more a trawl!] through the baptisms in same parish for Anne & Terence - say from 1845 - 1860. Will give parents names. Also marriages around that time of Leonards & Martins. Or pay a day's subscription to http://ifhf.rootsireland.ie/ for indexed results.

Griffiths has these Patrick Martins in Magheracloone [don't know the year]
Griffith   Martin   Patrick   Greaghawillin(Jackson)   Magheracloone   Co. Monaghan
Griffith   Martin   Patrick   Enagh                           Magheracloone   Co. Monaghan
Griffith   Martin   Patrick   Leons Beg                           Magheracloone

Could it be Hugh Martin?
