Family Burial
« on: Thursday 27 August 20 14:58 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Can anyone help? My great grandfather was born 1911 and died in 1960. He was buried in his local cemetery along with his wife. I have his death certificate which claims when and how he died. I then contacted the cemetery where I thought he was buried to check records and the priest there confirmed my great grandfather is indeed buried there. The shocker came when he said he was buried in 1961...a whole 6 months after he died!!

There is no headstone, just a small figurine marking the plot which leads me to believe they did not have a lot of money and there are other family members buried in the same cemetery.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know of a reason why it would take 6 months to bury someone when the cause of death was natural causes?

Thank You :)

Have you checked to see whether he had been cremated.

Oh no I didn't even think to do that. How would I check if he was cremated?

If he died local to where he was buried I would imagine the nearest crematorium would have records. They would need a death date.

Ohh OK.....I didn't even think to research this. I will contact the local crematorium where I think he may have been and drop them an email to see if they have records.

Thank you so much :)

No, he died first then his wife died 10 years later but was buried 2 weeks after she died in the same plot as him.

I would be surprised if a Body was later interred with ashes though, it is normally the other way round.
