Edward Pinnell 1811 Islington Middlesex
« on: Thursday 27 August 20 15:59 BST (UK) »
Hi all.
Could someone help me find Edwards marriage, please? A family tree on Familysearch has his marriage on 26 January 1833 to Elizabeth Sorrell. I would like to know where they have got that info from.
1841 census living Bethnall Green Middlesex
1851 census living Shoreditch Middlesex
1871 census living St Saviour Southwark
1881 census living Brentford Middlesex
....working as a Silversmith

Thanks
Maggie

Can't see a marriage in 1833.

Could you ask the person who has that information to confirm where they got it from to save you some time?
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

That's who I thought he'd married but the 1861 census has him as a Master Grocer when he was a Silversmith in the other censuses

Hi.
Found the marriage on Familysearch. No other info only the date. Tried Findmypast but they don't have it. Has anybody got Ancestry.co.uk? Or can it be found anywhere else?

The marriage is on Ancestry.  Unfortunately there is no occupation given for Edward, sometimes they did before it was part of the 'form'

Eliza did not sign which is also a shame as her name has been written as 'x Elizabeth Major'  although it has her as Eliza higher up.  If she had signed it herself we could be more sure that she was Elizabeth and not Eliza.

familysearch has the marriage of Charles Pennell and Elizabeth Serrell 28 Jan 1833 Southwark.

Looking at the register for St George Southwark her name could be Sorrell , but their is no dot over the e in Pennell ( but it's not very  clear .) Witnesses are Thomas and Mary Snelling.

I can't see anything at all for Edward Pinnell/ Elizabeth Sorrell.

Thank you ladies. If the marriage to Elizabeth/Eliza Major is correct, what could be the reason his occupation is given as "Master Grocer" in the 1861 census when all the other censuses are "Silversmith" Could there be another "Edward" who was a Grocer? mmm....I'll see if I can find one. I've looked at this tree before on Familysearch and there have been a few mistakes, but you have to investigate as it could be right.
Thanks again
Maggie

Edward's father in law, James Major, is with them in 1861. Age 71, Silk Weaver, born Bethnal Green. Which is a bonus for you. Image here

Edward Pinnell is in London directories around that time as a grocer at 25 Belvedere Place, Borough Road, as per the 1861 census.
