DNA success WALES common surnames
« on: Thursday 27 August 20 21:03 BST (UK) »
Id like to share this success story
Hope examples will inspire and  offer examples as a case study for comparisons

This is using mothers dna  :
Her grandfathers name is Abiah Roger JONES b 1849

So obvously she matches her cousin   .com....by  a large amount 1200cm  corrected

And a half cousin s child 330cm

There were other mutual matches that I realized were from an earlier generation. so I traced  descendants of his siblings :children of Joseph JONES b 1827 llanorman and Rebekah Thomas

We now have paper links confirmed by DNA to all 3 of his sisters

1)Dorcas JONES m john thomas ROBERTS had 10 children lived in Atherton Lancashire children worked in mines

A 3x great grandson is a 6cm match 2C2xR

2)Martha b 1850 m Abraham Price
 Two Great greatgrandchilden   2c2r.
44cm +
39cm ( their grandparents were siblings)

3) Harriet m David jones and emigrated to USAwhere her only child was a reverend
Her greatgrandchild is  a 90cm match

I have contacted a few other ancestry members who mutually match some of us and offered to help build up their trees so their connection can be confirmed .

Ideally id also like to find paper trail & matches to their brother
4) john Thomas JONES b 1853
He was a butcher who married mary Evans in 1875 llanrsit Denbighshire but seems to have worked in merioneth.

I havent been able to separate his sons Robert Edward JONES 1877 & joseph  thomas JONES 1880  bOth born Towyn merioneth Wales
from all the others with same names

We also have some relatively high matches
67 cm 39seg
+ 60cm

Who have extensive trees  but with a different llanormn  JONES couple as their common ancestor

edward Jones b1822 & mary Garner JONES b ,1823

I can only suppose

a) biological parent differs from trees. there was a fair amount of fostering between my JONES

B) mistakes on a tree

C) Edward b1823 and Joseph b 1827 were brothers
Fathers name William

Have made contact with a 57cm.match

Her great grandmother Harriet Elizabeth PRICE b 1889 was adopted by William Lloyd ROBERTS who also adopted Isaac PRICE  b *1897 presumably her brother
Her mutual matches connect closest to Martha Ann Jones.
As harriet Elizabeth was illegitimate im working on theory that she was daughter of eldest daughter Hannah Price  b flint 1869

We need a paper trail to confirm this theory

:I'm now using these amounts and relationships to help a 93 year old help find his birth father

By comparing his matches and names but it's not easy without actually seeing his DNA results

He's also fron Denbighshire but related to my OWENS SMITH side

But his granddaughter believes his birth father  was from TREVOR. Family

Update there are actually now 4 matches  lines to Martha JONES. (Mentioned in first post sister of Abiah JONES)
Thru her PRICE children

Hannah PRICE 1869 had a birth child
Harriet PRICE  1889who was adopted by William and Margaret ROBERTS (+later married John William WILLIAMS.) In Trydden Flint
The  mother Hannah married Charles worstal and moved to Harrogate

Jane PRICE 1872 married PERRY
BUT. Her first daughter Beatrice may PRICE was brought up by birth father William Henry JONES 1874 b  the red lion pub  moved to Durham

Harriet PRICE 1877 m David John ROBERTS 1871 and moved to Caernarvonshire

Robert price 1885  married and moved to USA

So a lot of common names among descendants but all double checked

 ???

I found that I had eight separate Jones lines before I took a DNA test and all lines showed up in my test.

It's incredible isn't it .

Did your JONES mostly stay in Wales or end up all aver the world like mine ? Do you have favourites ?

.tho they don't always show up in thru lines

I like to concentrate on unravelling the adoptees and remarriages .

Be very careful of Thru lines - they often add links that they've produced via searching other trees for similar names.

Some of the descendants stayed in Wales, others can be found in England, US, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and Australia.  My father told me that one of his relatives went to Patagonia but I've not found anyone going there so far. A relative did marry a mining engineer who worked for railway companies in Central and South America but she was from my mother's side.
