Fresh look at Joseph Hood c1778-80
« on: Friday 28 August 20 14:28 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have placed this post on the general board rather than a specific county board because of the general area in which Joseph appears to have frequented and boundary shiftment's. Much is known about him and his children but there are gaps. He was born c1778 and died in Coseley in 1836 aged 56 and was an agent in the iron business/iron & brass founder. He married Sophia (Soby/Sobey in some records ) in 1799 Halesowen.

I believe him to be the son of a William Hood/Jane Brettle. My reasoning behind this is he named his last son Edward Brettle Hood in 1821. Also the death of a Jane Hood (possible mother ) in1820 in the Deepfields, Bilston, an area Joseph was residing in when having children baptised from 1816 onward's and the death of Sophia his wife in 1821.

I have never found anywhere a baptism that fits with these parents, or indeed any possible siblings. I have tried following backwards other Hoods in the Bilston area who were naming children with a very similar naming pattern to that of Joseph/Sophia but drawn blanks.

Hoping with more eyes looking there may be some small hints I have missed ie, newspaper articles, records not considered, anything really.

Thanks for reading,

John

Jane Hood was age 65 on 1820 Burial;
So born c 1755 which works for 1775 Marriage.
Abode is the same as Sophias 1821 Burial; Capon Field Sedgley

I think you are on the right path but as you say proving it is difficult ::)

Thank you both for the replies. Thought my post had died. That is the marriage I found. It's strange that there appear to be so little records in the way of baptisms for any of those I have, ie Jane Brettle, Sophia Billingham and Various Hoods. Need to feel blessed with what I do have I suppose.
