Jane Richardson
« on: Friday 28 August 20 14:46 BST (UK) »
I have been trying without success to find a baptism record for Jane Richardson.  She is my great-grandmother and married my great-grandfather in 1853 in the Wycliffe Chapel, Heaton Norris.  According to census returns from 1841 to 1901 she was born in 1832 in Nottingham.  In 1841 she was living with a Patience Howe aged 75 in Stockport. In 1851 she is known by the name of Shore with Patience Howe now known as Patience Laughton and mother in law of the householder a James Shore and still in Stockport.

Her marriage cert gives her father as either John Richardson deceased a Cutter or Cutler.

Any help will be appreciated.

What relationship is given for Jane to Patience?

Are you sure that Patience Howe is the same person as Patience Laughton  :-\

Have you looked for a baptism under Shore instead of Richardson.

Looks like Sarah Richardson married James Shore 11 Nov 1832 so depends what date Jane was born as to what her surname should be.

Thanks.  I haven't looked for a baptism under Shore rather than Richardson but will do so.

I have the marriage of Sarah Richardson to James Shore in Nov 1832 but unfortunately I don't know Sarah's dob.

I think Patience Rainsford was baptized in Dunham on Trent, Notts on 20 May 1771 and marries a John Howe.  In 1794 Patience Howe marries William Laughton in Tuxford, Notts.  The 1851 Census gives her birth place as Dunham on Trent.  There is a death record for Patience Lawton registered in the third quarter of 1851 in Stockport.

The 1851 Census shows Patience as mother in law presumably to James Shore. I have no relationship for Sarah to Patience other than that they were together in 1841 and 1851 and were both from Notts.

Finally there is some doubt over SRs father's forename.  The GRO cert is John and that from Stockport is Joseph - another curved ball!

There is a baptism/christening St Nicholas Liverpool
Sarah Betty Howe - born 14 Jan 1802 - christened/baptised 14 Jan 1803
Abode - Rigby Street
Father John Howe - Button Maker
Mother Patience Rainsford

Also another possible marriage for her
Sarah Howe
Joseph Richardson

Also on the 1841 census with James Shore + Sarah, their children William + Beniah(?) are 15 + 10 respectively - ages don't tie in with their marriage unless they are James children from a previous marriage.
On 1841 census Patience + Jane Richardson are living approximately round the corner from James + Sarah so I think it's highly likely she's Sarahs Mother looking after her grandaughter

I had all this info but it didn't take me forward with Jane's baptism record.  I am beginning to suspect that she, Jane, was illegitimate, and her mother, Sarah, was sent away from Stockport to her mother's Patience, in Notts for the birth and perhaps not baptised.

My thanks to all for their help and research.
