There are a number of FARRELL families in Stevenston - including mine, who were there from the 1880s. I'm not sure if they are linked to Ruskie's FARRELLS, but I haven't traced all the lines descending from my 2nd great grandfather Jeremiah FARRELL, who was born in Ireland, but was married in Ayrshire in 1829.

John, parents of the father George referred to in this thread were born in Ireland. George’s father was Charles, born about 1817. Charles and family moved to Scotland between 1845 and 1848, and lived in Stevenston. I don’t know whereabouts in Ireland they came from. Do you know where yours came from as there may be a connection, and it might give me somewhere to start looking for them.  ;)

Unfortunately, I don't know where Jeremiah's family came from, in Ireland. A townland name was recorded on my great grandfather Hugh's birth, in 1855, but it is unreadable.

Jeremiah's parents were Thomas FARRELL, a salt worker; and Alison SLAVEN. They lived in St Quivox, Ayrshire, in the 1830s.

I don’t recognise those names I’m afraid John. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were related somewhere along the line though.
