Sam is still on the electoral rolls in Molesworth St up until 1873-74 along with his father John. He is gone in 1874-75.

Can't find him anywhere else in the rolls so as Lu said earlier he must have left the country, or perhaps changed his name.

 ;D   ... his whereabouts has got me beat, too.

Searching on "YATES" is problematic   ;D    .... all the variations beginning with "Y" ... and the mis-transcriptions --  GATES  /  BATES  /  OATES  ... etc.     :D
