Looking for Dora Bathgate.
« on: Saturday 29 August 20 10:45 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

As part of some research into WW1 nurses I have a Dora Bathgate (nee Lund born 1887 near Kendal). She spent some time in the Far East and then lived in the South of England in the 1930's.

I would like to trace her movements after that period and there is reference to her death in Dirleton, East Lothian in 1956. I haven't been able to find any records to confirm this. Her husband was from Edinburgh so the location is entirely possible.

Paul
I lived in Ardwick, Manchester in the early 1960s as a small child and much travelling of the world has now led me to want to know more about my roots. Carter, Beckwith, Connolly, Heron and Kelly are all names that form part of my family tree.

Many thanks to you both.

Any idea where I might find her probate records or any information about her time in East Lothian?

Hi Paul, unfortunately probate records are not available to view online after 1925. You would need to go in person or get someone to do it for you at National Records of Scotland Search Room in Edinburgh. However they are closed at the moment due to the virus. No date yet for them reopening.

If you would like a copy of her death certificate please pm me as I have some spare credits for SP.

Hi Paul I have emailed her death certificate to you.

One place you might try for information on her time in East Lothian is the Gullane and Dirleton History Society  email contact is gdhsinfo@yahoo.co.uk   You never know they might know something about her or be able to tell you where you might find something.
