Johnsons from Howdon/Howdon Pans
« on: Sunday 30 August 20 14:39 BST (UK) »
I have most of the Johnson's but am stuck on finding out about William Johnson c1781.  I have him married 16/02/1807 at Christ Church, Tynemouth to Jane McKenzie c1791.  In 1841 he is living with his wife and two children, Arthur 1821 and Robert 1826, at Low Town Howdon Pans and his occupation is down as Keelman.  I am having difficulty locating the baptisms for Arthur and Robert in the Wallsend section of the Bishop's Transcripts.  Given William and Jane married in 1807, I am sure they would have had more children, but I cannot find anything.  Am I looking in the wrong place, or what?

Welcome to Rootschat

In 1841 - ages from 16yrs upwards were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs.

William & Jane were 60 & 50 respectively so birthyears 1781-1784 and 1791-1794

Have you found Robert & Arthur in later censuses?    Does Robert show his birthplace as Wallsend in 1851 - married to Margaret?

Did Arthur marry a Dorothy?  1851/61 birthyear is 1822

Hi CaroleW
Thanks very much for that information.  Arthur was indeed married to Dorothy Coates and Robert was married to Margaret Thompson.  I had no idea about the two other christenings, as I was unaware as to how to get them.  I will add these to my tree, and see if anyone else has them in their tree.  The Thomas christening in 1815 may help me to find him on Ancestry.  Thanks again
Kath
