Merin Foster/Forster 33rd Reg’t of foot
« on: Monday 31 August 20 00:56 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any knowledge regarding regiments that were garrisoned or recruiting in the South Fermanagh area about 1790.
The reason being that Mervin Foster/Forster b.ABT 1770 at Coolnasillagh,Rathmoran may have enlisted roundabout 1790. Hoping that if I could see his attestation papers I might be able to follow his service history.
Mervin is mentioned on the Registry of Deeds (Ireland). Mem’l No 451054 on a lease of property for his Heir and Offsprings dated 7Dec.1812. On the deed he is referred to as Mervin Forster ‘Esquire’ of the 33rd Regiment of Foot.
Definition: ESQUIRE Persons who are so styled under the Royal Sign Manual (Officers of the armed forces of or above the rank of Captain in the Army)
I think it is possible that Mervin may have died between 1812 - 1815 because the property which he leased for is Heir and Offsprings was reconveyed to his brothers, Malcolm and John.
I expect it is likely that Mervin Enlisted with some other regiment before he joined the 33rd of foot.
Grateful for any advice or assistance if possible.
 John F.
