Robert Hughes marriage 1872 Llanrhaeadr
« on: Monday 31 August 20 14:34 BST (UK) »
Help please transcribing marriage cert (attached) for Robert Hughes & Elizabeth Davies 31/5/1872. It appears as Rhydy . . something Chapel, District of Ruthin, overwritten what appears to be Llanrhaeadr. The 1881 census has them in Prion-Bach, Llanrhaeadr in Kinmerch (Llan. yng Nghinmerch) and 1891 & 1901 Peny Coed also in Llan. in K. I have searched both Llan. in K & Llan. ym Mochnant on GENUKI and neither has a chapel of similar name. So what is it called and where might it be? Lastly any ideas as to their residences at time of marriage? Hopefully I can then try and find them on earlier censuses and identify parents & siblings.

Your thoughts would be most appreciated
thanks
Richard

it's a Calvinistic Methodist Chapel and looks like Rhydycilgwyn so likely to be Rhewl Chapel

https://www.coflein.gov.uk/en/site/7819/details/rhewl-chapel-welsh-calvinistic-methodistrhyd-y-cilgwyn-rhewl

Robert's address is Penycae, Llanrhaiadr and Elizabeth's Felin Bryn Lluarth. On here in the unmutated form Melin Bryn Lluarth

Details on Genuki suggest there was a Baptist Chapel at Rhydycilgwyn:

Thank you Osprey for your transcription and links & Jo for the additional chapel option. Inevitably there are followup queries but I'll make that as separate topic. Thanks again

the certificate states 'according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Calvinisitic Methodists' so likely to be in a Calvinistic Methodist church.

Rhydycilgwyn Chapel - Calvinistic Methodists - is one and the same as Rhewl Chapel.

Rhewl village on the Ruthin - Denbigh A525 road - about 3 miles from Ruthin.

Llanrhaiadr Yng Nghimmerch about 3 miles further on towards Denbigh.

(nothing to do with Llanrhaeadr Y Mochnant)
