Elizabeth Bruce Married James Phillip
« on: Monday 31 August 20 17:47 BST (UK) »

Greetings....

On a 1906 Marriage registration in Holyoke, MA for Ann Phillips, her parents are listed as Elizabeth Bruce and James Phillips. Elizabeth and James are listed as having been born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
Through my research, Elizabeth was born in 1858 and James in 1862. They had a daughter in Scotland by the name of Susan.
Does anyone have information on them while living in Scotland? Ancestors, records, photographs? I They came to America on or around 1883.

Thanks!

Ev beat me to it regarding the marriage.

If you are unfamiliar with Scotlands People - you can search for free but need to use units to view actual marriages.

If it is the correct marriage you will find that the certificate you can view (6 units) - will give you both the bride and grooms parents' names - including the mother's maiden surname --- so very useful.

'Den' -- forgive me if you know this, but if you subscribe to Ancestry - the transcribed versions of Scotland census records up to 1901 are on that site. (For 1911 you need to look at Scotlands People).

In addition - on Ancestry - if you go to the Card Catalogue and insert a search term of 'Scotland' (without the quotes) -- there are a whole lot of data sets on the site - electoral rolls for some places. poor law info for some -- etc etc. You never know when they may be useful.

(By the way I am not receiving notifications from Rootschat when there is a reply on this thread, despite having contributed to it - I just saw that a reply had been made in the current topics --- I wonder why?)
