Mrs Hughes& child
« on: Monday 31 August 20 17:57 BST (UK) »
Hello ,this is a real long shot, Mrs Hughes and her child was lost in the sinking of the Drummond Castle on the 16th June 1896 on route from the Cape(South Africa) to London they were from Mold Flintshire >Mr William Hughes cattle dealer was on route to meet his daughter in law when he heard the sad news.
Does anybody know if any records exist,I think her husband may be  a Thomas Hughes b 1867 in Mold as I have him up to 1881 and then nothing.
William Hughes is my GGgrandfather
Thanks in advance
ivor

Thanks for all the information ,I don't think the grave is the Thomas I am looking for as he is born in 1880's  as mine is 1867   I have only found one William Hughes cattle dealer in Mold cencus's and that one is my ancestor along with his brother who is in the same trade,I cannot open the link on the last post so am not sure about that one
Thanks

Have you seen this article? https://newspapers.library.wales/view/3737502/3737507/61

What I find interesting is that it states Mrs. Hughes and daughter. All other children were referred to as child/children, and not by their sex. This could be because it was the way she was registered on board, but I am surprised that it was not listed as Mrs. Hughes and infant if the baby was so very young.

Hello Nookie,I hadn't actually seen this article so thanks for finding it,Son or daughter it was still a terrible accident, alas I am no nearer finding out Mrs Hughes and child's  first name ,I am just hoping somebody finds the Marriage which I presume took place in Cape Town.

Also I think Thomas has remarried again in cape Town to a Harriett Emily  don't know surname
Thanks
