« on: Monday 31 August 20 19:14 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have a marriage for Sarah Whitehouse to William Smith 1792 St Martin Tipton
Her father was called Samuel Whitehouse occ Miller.
Trying to find him how would I go about finding him with just a name and occ ??

Thank you Mabel.

You could try looking for Sarah's baptism with a father Samuel and hope that his occupation is shown (and that he was a Miller at that time.)
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

I can find no evidence of a Sarah Whitehouse with father Samuel Whitehouse marrying a William Smith in 1792 in Tipton.

Could you say where this information comes from, so that we can follow up your query.

Yep, it's on freereg.
Plus the baptism of a Daniel Smith 1.9.1800 at Coseley Old Meeting Presbyterian Sedgley. Father William, mother Sarah Whitehouse. Very kindly her father is indeed given as Samuel Whitehouse,
miller. It doesn't say if he is deceased, but says 'is a miller', so one presumes not.
William Smith and Sarah Whitehouse live at 'Princes End'.

Have you got all the other baptisms for William and Sarah?
The naming of the children may help give you clues to previous generations.

As you seem to have found out, there doesn't seem to be an obvious baptism for Sarah Whitehouse.
Her baptism may be missing for whatever reason.

Familysearch lets you search with just a surname, and the father's name.
So you could put in 'Whitehouse' and then 'Samuel' as the father's name.
And 'Staffordshire'.

Normally I would say look for wills to see if Sarah (and her husband William, or maybe their children) are mentioned.
Do you know when Samuel Whitehouse died?
I looked at a couple in the early 1800s.
findmypast have Staffordshire wills. They came under the Diocese of Lichfield.

There is a Samuel Whitehouse  27.7.1854. Unfortunately he died Intestate (did not make a will), and this is an administration of his goods. He was a bachelor, and had two brothers, William and Daniel. Very interestingly, his residence is Princes End, - the same as William Smith's in 1800 on HIS son Daniel's baptism.
Perhaps these were brothers of Sarah.

You could look at other wills, especially if you can find the death of Sarah's father.
Also any other Whitehouses at Princes End.
