English will says "translated from the French"

This has got me confused.  I have the will of Elijah Askew, who died in Yorkshire 8 July 1889.  His will was made the same day.  He was 32 years old. He had recently run a pub but lost his licence due to being incapably drunk on his own premises.  As far as I know he never left the country, so why would the probate document say, at the end, "Translated from the French.  Bois de Colombes 19 May 1885"?
I have a local address for him, and he ran the pub as the licensee from 1882 until 1888.

Is it a Register Copy? It may relate to the following will, if there is one. Such headings are often at the top rather than the foot.

I've just been sent the copy of the will and this was at the bottom, so perhaps you are right and it would be the top of the next one, I hadn't thought of that.

You could ask whoever supplied it to have another look? Was it the Probate Office? I think they have an email address for queries, but I seem to remember it's quite hard to find on the site.
