1851 Census (Sunderland) - Can't decipher surname?
« on: Wednesday 02 September 20 18:54 BST (UK) »

I'm looking at the 1851 Census record for Joseph Beason, living at 15 Hendon Road, Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland.

Joseph is living with his wife, 2 sons and grandson John, but can anyone make out John's surname?

It looks like Woovel or Woorel, but there are no records for those surnames, and it doesn't appear to match any names currently in my tree.

It looks like Woorel.
Have you tried searching for Worrel/Worrell?

Also there is an entry on 1871 Census for a John A 'Woorell' aged 30, in Bishop Wearmouth - son of Robert and Ellen.

I suspect that should be Worrell.

Thank you so much everyone.

I had looked up marriages for Beason<->Woovel and Woorel, but didn't think to try Worrell, as there were clearly 2 O's visible, but that's obviously it!! The middle name "Atkinson" also fits as that was Joseph's wife's maiden name, so this all matches perfectly.

Thank you all again so much for your help  :)
