Halifax, St John the Baptist PRs
« on: Thursday 03 September 20 23:31 BST (UK) »
I'm looking at the PRs on Ancestry for St John the Baptist in Halifax for 1885. It seems that on all the right hand pages, the left margin has not been properly imaged so all the birth dates are lost. Is there anywhere online that has a complete set of right hand page images? It's sod's law that practically everyone I'm looking up is on the right hand page  :'(

I’m looking for Scatchard or Scatchard or any similar variation with father Tom and mother Ann. Dates are from about 1880 onwards

Unfortunately I can't seem to find those records on Find My Past.

I would maybe write to Ancestry and tell them there is a problem with the image and that they've cut off some information.

The Family Search homepage seems to imply that only Ancestry currently has the images for that particular record if you look at the link here.

https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Halifax_St_John_the_Baptist,_Yorkshire_Genealogy

However, it does also seem from looking online that the West Yorkshire Archive service currently holds the record. I would imagine that you might be able to request them to look at the information for you, particularly as you are able to tell them exactly what pages you want.

I don't think that Ancestry can help - the images are from a tightly-bound volume of the register.  WYAS may be your only solution.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

Thank you everyone for your observations and suggestions. I suspect contacting Ancestry will result in their generic brush-off reply  :( , so as suggested I've dropped a note to WYAS and await their response.
