an opinion please *COMPLETED*

I am currently lookin at a record from The Keep East Sussex Records Office at https://www.thekeep.info/collections/getrecord/GB179_MIL_5_8_38 that relates to Conveyance (lease and release, bond and final concord).

On rereading this entry I am now unsure exactly what this statement means as it applies to Mary NEWINGTON nee THOMPSETT - is she alive or is she deceased at the time of the Conveyance?

The statement reads "2   Joseph Newington of Ticehurst, gent, and his wife Mary, only daughter of James Tompsett, late of Ticehurst, yeoman, deceased"

I had originally thought this meant that Mary and Mary's father were both deceased in 1770 however perhaps this is not so and perhaps its only Mary's father who is deceased in 1770?

Thoughts please.

I read it as just her Father being deceased.

I too agree. 

I have found that legal documents tend to "bundle" all the information about a person together and usually after the person has been introduced on the document.

If the deceased person is James THOMPSETT....is this relevant to the business being conducted?

If the deceased person is Mary daughter of James  THOMPSETT....is this relevant to the business being conducted?

I suspect that mention of James THOMPSETT is just an elaborate way to identify Mary, but........

I may have to revisit Mary's burial as I have it before the Conveyance which is the issue for me.
