Looking for grave site, death details Thurles.?
« on: Friday 04 September 20 11:11 BST (UK) »
I am looking for burial/death details and or photo of the grave of my husbands great uncle who died in 1963.I have found a lot of details about his life but not where the location of his grave is.We hope to visit his grave site when we are allowed to travel again.
I have tried to find on Irish BMD site without success.
The only death details I have are...Captain Ernest Garnett. died 1963 Holycross ,Thurles.
His wife Irene died in 1957 address The Mall,Thurles and could possibly be buried with him?
Any info. or even grave photo and/or inscription would be most welcome.
Thankyou.

There is obit in the Irish Examiner Jan 23 1963

The death took place at St Ann's Nursing Home Thurles yesterday of Captain Ernest Garnett, British Army, retired. He was 85 years of age and was a native of Waterford.
The late Captain saw service in Egypt, India and during the first World War. On his retirement he lived for some time in the Bellelake district of Waterford before going to Thurles.
He is survived by a brother William in South Africa.

Many thanks. Why i couldnt find it online i dont know.
Ernest was a Quaker and member of the Garnett family who had teaching connections at Newtown school in Waterford, although he moved to Manchester and married in an Anglican church.
Is Holy Cross the name of the Church or a district of Thurles? He was very close to his brother William who is mentioned in the obituary.William lived in South Africa,.
Many thanks once again.
Sheila

Hi Sheila,
Just remembered......
I know Tipperary Studies have a project and they are updating graveyards.

Drill down to Gravestone Inscriptions.

Dear Sheila

I am a descendent of Ernest Garnett's brother William Garnett and have a fair amount of information to share, including Ernest's own biography!
