Diary Friday 4th September

Was so tired last night, went to sleep a bit earlier and woke quite late today. Not a bad day, what they call on the weather forecast 'sunny intervals '.

Haven't done much at all today. Decided to go for a walk on the beach at low tide which was about midday. Took a jacket as it was cool and can be much colder on the beach. There were a few people walking, the beach wasn't the usual long stretch of smooth sand, there were lots of ripples and pools and pebbles. Had to weave around to avoid getting my feet wet, as I got further along there was quite a lot of seaweed, the stuff that looks like a mop with a long handle. Again, unusual for this beach. A little further and there was a great shelf of the stuff and it stunk. I've never seen the beach like this, hope the sea takes it all back out again. Turned back then and came home for a late lunch.

Did a few things on the computer then had a lovely long phone call with a friend. Apart from folding washing and general tidying I didn't do much else. Nice to have a lazy day.

Fish for tea, it was advertised as chargrilled with some topping, two thin strips.  It said two portions, I could have eaten both,  quite tasty but not enough for two. I'll make it myself another time. After I've eaten the other portion that is.

Not good news from N.Z. 2 deaths. A man in his late 50's yesterday and a Dr in his 80's today both in Auckland.  12 more days of level 2 for me and level 2.5 for Auckland. (no gatherings over 10, no more than 50 at weddings and funerals.)
Easy day for me. Just the washing in and out.
I am limited to what I can do because of my legs and other health issues. Spring is arriving and so too my hayfever.
This morning I had to go through all my photo album's as youngest son wanted 1 photo. Sod's law it was in the last one. They were on my old computer but when it crashed I couldn't retrieve them.
Today's job will be to scan them all into my Laptop. Next time one of the children want a photo i wont have to dismantle my house.

That is good that you have had a relaxed day Roobarb.  I can picture your walk on the beach.  Lovely apart from the stink if the seaweed.

I think some manufacturers are a bit economical with the truth when it comes to portion size. 

I have not long since got back from work.  It was very cold at the bus station tonight.  I think I will have to hunt out a hat and gloves soon if it continues cold like this early morning and late at night.  I was looking at Find A Grave on the way home on the bus.  Someone has very kindly fulfilled my request for a photo of the war grave of my Great Uncle.  I wanted to write and thank this person but apparently there is no email for them and they are not accepting messages.  Moon was very bright tonight as I walked home from the bus stop.

Roobarb - your walk along the beach sounds wonderful, despite the stinky seaweed! Good to get out into the fresh air and fill your lungs with all the salty sea air... sounds like you deserved a quiet day after that! Always good to chat with friends too!

OH up before me this morning could hear him emptying the dishwasher always a plus... usually find things in odd places or left on the kitchen counter if he's not sure where they go!
It was quite sunny and not cold so decided to strip one if the beds and get it in the washing machine...
Sat and chatted after breakfast... wondering how his golf pal was after his visit to the hospital... also his other golfing buddie who lives up the lane and spends the winters in SA but decided not to go back... they're not used to English winters and are quite worried about the cold, early darkness... hope we're able to be of some support but if we're all still not really supposed to be inside that might be difficult... all their family live quite a distance away too... it's a dilemma for us all really...
Gave the upstairs a good clean... so now whole house is done for the week...
Had lots of bags of tree cutting stuff so went off to the local recycle centre... not to long a queue all pretty well organised and only took about 20 minutes..
Called in at the butchers on the way home as hadn't had time on Tuesday... only one in there which was good...
Had lunch when we got back...
Amazing delivery service... new valves for kitchen tap ariived in the post... only ordered yesterday! No time to do it today so a job for the morning... think I'll make myself scarce just in case there's a lot of huff and puff emanating from the kitchen!
OH went off to play golf ...
I went up to my work room to get on with the face coverings...
Skoukd have about 150 to give her when this lot are done...
Had a long chat with a friend... how time runs away with you when your chatting... good to talk though..
OH arrived home about 7pm earlier than he'd said... so didn't get as much done as I'd wanted to as expecting to have dinner later!
We just had ham, cheese & mushroom omelettes with sliced tomatoes from the garden...
Watched some tv whilst knitting...
Another day bites the dust... how time flys when you're having fun!
Another weekend coming round but really every days like the weekend!
And so to bed for a read... The Second Sleep by Robert Harris... hadn't realised it was a futuristic story, not something I normally read but I've enjoyed his other books and this ones caught my imagination and is intriguing!

RTL - hard to think you're already going to need hats and gloves and we're only at the beginning of Sept! What a shame about not being able to communicate with the person who supplied the picture for you....

Carol - good to hear from you despite it not being all good news... at least you all seem to know where you stand in NZ... unlike ours which has different actions for each part of UK.

That is sad about those deaths due to covid.  Especially as one person was only in their fifties.
Interesting to think that you are approaching spring as we here are approaching winter, Carol.
It sounds like you are going to be very busy tomorrow with all that scanning to be done.
I don't know what time difference there is where where you are but it is well after midnight here so I am going to get off to sleep now.  Will look forward to catching up with more posts soon.  Goodnight.

Caroline (as you have mentioned) we seem to have posted at the same time in the early hours .. you seem to have had another filled day.  Wow that is incredible that you have made these 150 face coverings to hand over next time and are knitting as well!  What a Godsend you have been during all this time.  You must be sick of me saying this but I think it is amazing how you keep working like a trojan with your skills.  You have really come up trumps for the NHS/Keyworkers this year.
That is an amazing delivery service re the new kitchen valves considering they were only ordered the day before.  I hope these can be fitted today without too much huff and puff.
I agree it is a shame I cannot communicate with and thank the person who has helped me on Find A Grave because they have a notice up saying they are accepting no messages.  I would have liked to have let them know how grateful I am.  They even wrote out the transcription of my Great Uncle's war grave.  Oh well, I will just have to keep paying things forward by adding my own photos on there for others.

Thanks RTL for your kind words... I'm sure I've not done any more than others... in fact one lady has just finished her 100th set of scrubs!
I enjoy sewing and it has been good to do something worth while to help in a small way and kept my sanity!
As a NHS worker you and all your colleagues are the true stars... and coping with long tiring shifts not to mention your gruelling bus journeys day and night! We're all grateful for your hard work.
Have a good day... not sure if you're working or having a well earned rest!

There is a real Autumnal nip in the air early and late as soon as UK goes into September so I imagine a hat and gloves will be a boon at the bus station for you RTL.
It always amuses me how the children run about in T shirts and shorts all year, and my son moans about the cold in Oz, but he hardly ever needs a jumper in winter, and I need one most of the summer usually.
We all seem to be plodding along, making the best of avoiding groups and yet trying to have friendly interactions where we can.  It is sad to see NZ has had a couple of deaths despite their control of the virus has been so much better than ours.
Paying it forward is a good thing to do RTL, but I reckon you have plenty of credits on your slate. I was really chuffed to help someone a bit last week.  It gives me a buzz for days.
Likewise Caroline who should probably be nominated for an MBE or something.
