Waller emigration to Tasmania
« on: Saturday 05 September 20 18:18 BST (UK) »
I am researching the Waller families who lived in County Cavan Ireland in the 1800's.
I am interested in Rebecca Waller who married Louis Honroth in Hobart on the 26th July  1858.
She appears to be the only one from her family to go over and I was wondering why that would be. Would it be prospects over there at that time  or could she have been a convict?.
Interestingly on her marriage record it mentions William Waller as a witness. So maybe she went as there were relatives living in Tasmania.  As yet I have not found  William as a sibling for her.
Interested in people's thoughts.
Thank you

Have found William Waller as a brother who was married to Rebecca Waller in Drung Cavan 1854. These could be the witnesses on the marriage record. Still curious as to why they went over.

And for his wife Rebecca in 1913 ( note the age has been transcribed incorrectly and should be 88 , not 58 )

If you search for "Caroline Middleton" on https://trove.nla.gov.au/ you can find numerous reports of arrivals , goods carried and numbers of immigrants , all looking for work. There is a report here -

describing concerns about the upkeep of all the immigrants and finding work for them all.
