To obtain details of Thomas' origin you could purchase a printout for the birth(s) registration of a child/children after October 1875. Here is a list of the data collected and which you would expect to see on a printout.

These details would have been provided by one of the child's parents so possibly more reliable than the details given by family members for Thomas' death registration.

There are a number of family trees (@ ancestry.com) one of which suggests Thomas WALLER (b.c. 1844) was born Co. Cavan, Ireland and that his parents were Robert WALLER and Bessie REEKIE.

Almost 100 years on it is sealed, though still a no exit rural road to the left off Waiuku Rd as you leave Pukekohe and go through Puni. I don't know area particularly well but go that way quite regularly and quite interested to learn some background of roads named after early families.
