Henry Wells
« on: Monday 07 September 20 05:03 BST (UK) »
Im looking for the parents and siblings of a Henry Wells from London. He came out to Van Diemans Land in 1827 as a convict onboard the Asia. His father was a tailor as he was as well. I believe his father may have been named John and he was the innkeeper at 'the Angel' in Loughborough.
Henry was charged with stealing from the Angel and sentenced to life.

Welcome to rootschat.

The newspaper report states he was around 19 when convicted.  It mentions his father John Wells (Innkeeper)   Apparently the father formerley resided in The Strand but went to Loughborough and commenced a business as a Tavern Keeper.

Reading the articles, it was the father who brought the prosecution, for theft of £100.

John Wells was later insolvent and spent time in the Fleet prison (entry record on Ancestry - not much help).

There are baptisms for 'Henry Wells' with Father John in London around 1807.  As they do not give father's profession they are not much help.  Presumably he could also have been born in Loughborough.
