Did my ancestor have a false leg ?

Found this letter and transcription in relatives research work .

George Smith b1826 wrote this to his daughter Elizabeth Owen GAMBLE the same year he died 1903

He was looking forward to new shoes from her bootmaker husbsnd James

But only cared about the size of one ...,any ideas what ."the leg" could mean ?

With a name like George SMITH its great to have a handwriting sample...unless he dictated it
But no one ever mentioned his legs before ..he was a porter in 1871 then back to being a fish dealer til 1901

It could  have been a small foot that would fit any shoe

I love the idea if his son in law being able to give him leftover odd shoes

ther happens to be a charoity idea forb "odd shoesday tuesdays" just heard on radio

I wonder if George cared about whether they matched whatever the size ?
