Halloween 2020

I realise it is still a few weeks away but was thinking about it - I like to make up goodie bags for the kids who come around trick or treating but this year I thought I will have to give them things that are wrapped up - then I wondered if anyone would be out and about anyway.

I think all the big retailers are giving Halloween a miss this year. Our local Tesco and Sainsbury have Christmas goodies out, but nothing for Halloween and they don't usually miss a trick!

Looks like "Trick or Treat"  is going ahead as usual in our village. Already over 40 people have posted on the village FB page telling everyone where they live, what decorations they're putting up (in gardens I hope) for people to come and look at, how many sweetie bags they are preparing etc etc. Just encouraging multiple households to all get together and forget social distancing.

I usually buy some sweets for any callers but haven't this year and won't be answering the door to any.

It all banned in scotland and I imagine they will have police cars circling round in case they catch anyone.

Last week on our village Facebook page someone said 'What's everyone doing for Trick or Treat this year?'. Followed by a very long list of quite disapproving replies from young mums all saying no, they definitely were not doing trick or treat, totally inappropriate, they were doing little family parties at home, elderly people usually like to join in as well but won't want to be bothered by doorbells this year......you get the idea.


This is a village where within a couple of weeks of lockdown the 'young mums' had organised a lengthy list of volunteers to help anyone who needed it & produced a flyer with contact details which they put through every door.


We do have the usual selfish idiots but I feel very lucky to live here with such a good community spirit, especially in the younger generation.
