2nd Cousin with 364 cM across 13 Segments
« on: Wednesday 09 September 20 15:26 BST (UK) »
Arrrggghhhhh.

This DNA thing can be frustrating.

I have this match of 364cM over 13 Segments, and lets call her Maureen.

I have another match with about half the cM of Maureen and I will call this one Peter.

They share the same Surname so maybe its Mother and Son?

No trees, nothing, zilch, na da.

So with Maureen selected I click on Shared Matches and get 27 people.

Do any of them have a Common Ancestor - No

Do any of them have a Tree that has more than 200 people - Yes

How many of the 27 have Trees with more than 200 people - 2

Do any if these have any common name - No

Do any if these 2 Trees have people in matching areas to my own tree - No

Has anyone responded to a Message - No

Am I frustrated - YES.

My highest dna match (not including siblings, etc) is 267cM across 11 segments - common ancestors are great grandparents.

How far back have you built your tree?

Have you searched freebmd for Maureen's surname with spouse as Maureen then check with births for Peters name?
(only if they are in the UK!)

364 over 13 seems quite close relation.
I have a couple of 1C!R at that level (one in each direction).
546/16 is my first cousin's daughter and
412/20 is my mother's first cousin,
but only 248/14 for a first cousin of my father's. Her daughter (my 2C) is 128/8

That pair had no trees and I thought I wasn't going to get a reply, but eventually did - with much apology for tardiness - and have been in touch a lot sharing family information. The mother was quite young when her father died (my grandmother's brother) so she knew very little about that side of the family. So maybe worth trying again, messages can get overlooked or accidentally deleted.

Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Thanks for the reply Durhamgirl

I have numerous possibilities for Maureen's marriage to Mr "Lewis" (ficticious surname but correct alphabetical character, so please do not look them up) and the same for Peter if I use her Maiden name from the marriages reported.  I just cannot tie them down to actuals and the lack of Shared Matches with Trees that may offer any hints further adds to the ever decreasing circles mode.

My tree has 4000 people and have all my Great Grand Grandparents bar one, listed and their siblings and as much as possible all of them mapped out.  ALl my Mother and Father's Siblings are mapped out, All their Aunt's, Uncle's are mapped out.  All my Cousin's, and known Second Copusin's are mapped out.

My tree goes back over 1000 years.

I do have a 3rd Cousin match with 64cM and she and I have been helping each  other for the last five years and we share the same Great Great Grandparents.  She does not have Maureen and Peter in her DNA matches, which is odd as the searching I have been doing points to Maureen and Peter being from a specific County where my 3rd Cousin and I share relatives.

Have you not made a connection to any of the 27 people?

Lizzie

Yes the relationship is close.

Firstly my Mother had fifteen 1st Cousins and all their families are mapped out in my Tree hence I am more or less not concentrating on her side.

My Father also had a lot of Cousins and not all are known, so I have been using the base of around Lancaster and likely birth location of either Maureen or her parents.  But I cannot reconcile her birth to the known surnames.

The search will continue

To those who have been on Ancestry within the last few months yes, but the vast majority are in the Not Been on Ancestry 3-11+ months category.

No response so far

Like Lizzie said I would keep sending both "Maureen" and "Peter" a message every so often.

Have you searched their names on social media?  :-\

Tried Social Media and found what could be them but no response to a Messenger message

So now I am trawling through the 27 Shared Matches.

For each one I am selecting them and Clicking on Shared Matches and then making a note of any that include Maureen and Peter.

Working through them I thought I had it cracked a "Lewis" Tree, all of five people and a user who has not been on Ancestry for over a year.

So after getting through a few there are some names that keep cropping up but none with any trees of use.
