Family Tree Maker Question
« on: Thursday 10 September 20 14:02 BST (UK) »
This may be a stupid question but I wanted to know what the difference is between the different versions of Family Tree Maker that are offered by MacKiev.

In other words why is there a UK, US, AU and Can version?

See the pull down menu to see what I mean.......https://www.mackiev.com/store_intern.html?productTab=ftmbutton&edition=ca

Does it have something to do with what country version of Ancestry you use? I have a worldwide subscription so I can use any version that they offer but I use Ancesrty.co.uk by preference.

I live in Canada but my research is in the UK. I don't want the Canadian version if is it is country specific and only relates to Canada.

I chose the UK version but when I go to check out it doesn't indicate what version I'm getting in the details and the payment amount is in Canadian dollars.

Hopefully someone has had the same issue  ;D

This may be a stupid answer - but how would we know the difference between the different versions if we have bought just one version?

Okay. I found a FTM Tech support page on Facebook and asked my question there.

An answer I was given a few months ago is that it has to do with spelling in the interface (e.g. baptise v. baptize and which Ancestry website to use.
Peter:
Convicts: COSIER (1791); LEADBEATER (1791); SINGLETON (& PARKINSON) (1792); STROUD (1793); BARNES (aka SYDNEY) (1800); DAVIS (1804); CLARK (1806); TYLER (1810); COWEN (1818); ADAMS[ON] (1821); SMITH (1827); WHYBURN (1827); HARBORNE (1828).
Commoners: DOUGAN (1844); FORD (1849); JOHNSTON (1850); BEATTIE (& LONG) (1856); BRICKLEY (1883).
Outlaws: MCGREGOR (1883) & ass. clans, Glasgow, Glenquaich, Glenalmond and Glengyle.

Well that too :)

But, maybe it's because you can link your Ancestry tree to FTM. So say for instance that you use Ancestry.co.uk then you'd want the UK version? I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems feasible.

Anyway....I bought the UK download version and paid in Canadian dollars so I'm happy.
