William Blake - Lambeth - bef.1770 - Any help with the brick wall!
« on: Saturday 12 September 20 16:05 BST (UK) »
Hello all,

I've asked for help with this man a few times over the years, but can't seem to get further back.

What I know:

William (sometimes has Henry as a middle name) Blake married Sarah and had the following children:
Possible marriage - 06 May 1795, St Leonard, Streatham - William Blake (wid.) to Sarah Bening (sp.)

Sarah Ann Blake 1798, Lambeth St Mary
Thomas Blake 1799, Lambeth St Mary
Mary Ann Blake 1801, Lambeth St Mary
Ann Blake 1804, Lambeth St Mary
Anna Blake 1805, Lambeth St Mary
Eliza Blake 1809, Lambeth St Mary
Joseph Blake 1811, Lambeth St Mary
Richard Blake 1813, Lambeth St Mary
Possible children (but pre-marriage):
William Henry Blake 1793, St Leonard Streatham
Sarah Blake 1794, St Leonard Streatham (d.1794)
John Blake 1795, St Leonard Streatham

I believe I have found William's first wife - Mary Bowyer - 20 May 1787 Holy Trinity Clapham.  However, I do not have a death for her.

I did think that William Blake could be the one who died in Lambeth in 1817, born c.1773, but that would make it a bit tight to have had a marriage in 1787.

This is one of my direct lines, so I would love to get back further with this one.  If anyone can help, please get in touch!

Many thanks,
Emma

I found a birth for a William Blake 2/12/1769, baptism 25/12/1769 St Leonards Shoreditch. Father William, Mother Elizabeth. Just thought the St Leonards bit might be relevant.
Regards.

No relation to William Blake the Artist (1757 - 1827), then?
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

@paco - Thank you for looking.  I've just had a look at the record and, frustratingly, there is another William Blake baptised to the same couple six years later.

@ThrelfallYorky - not yet!! However, seeing as I have no idea where 'my' William Blake was born, there could be a link somewhere... ::)
