John McLean born around 1810
« on: Tuesday 15 September 20 13:32 BST (UK) »
I am looking for my 3 * great grandfather John who married Mary McKenzie in 1833 in Strathblane.  According to the register he was a native of Blanefield, so I am looking for his ancestors?

What else do you know about him? For instance, what were the names of his children and when and where were they born?

Did he die in Scotland? Because if so his death certificate, available online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, should tell you the names of his parents.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

I think his wife Mary may have been born in Drymen, 1812, daughter of Donald McKenzie & Flora McMaster.

I can only find a birth of one son, Hugh, 1835, Strathblane. Were there others?

I am related to his son Donald, there were 2 Hugh's one born 1835 and the other 1847 and the final one was Malcolm 1943.  They were all born in Strathblane

yes it is Donald was staying with her parents in 41 and Malcolm and himself the same in 51.  Wonder why did the marriage in Strathblane had him down as Blanefield?

Sorry I was a few seconds behind you in posting that!

From above site;
Blanefield was the creation of the 19th century when the Blanefield Calico Printworks had been in its heyday.

Doesnt say when Printworks opened though.

Trish :)
