North Road, Clifton, Swinton
« on: Tuesday 15 September 20 17:38 BST (UK) »
Hello all, not been here for a while, but hoping some knowledgeable person can help.

On the 1861 census I have an address of Green Bank House, North Road, Clifton.  I have searched but am unable to find out where it is, or was.   Is the North Road of 1861 now Manchester Road?
Dixon Fold is on the maps I can find, and North Road seems to have been in the same locale.

Any help please?

Susan

The 'Description of Enumeration District' in the 1861 Census refers to the Turnpike Rd, so I think we can safely assume that it is what is now the A6.

There is also a Robin Hood Inn on North Rd which is probably the site of the present day pub of the same name.

However, someone may know otherwise!

Can't see Green Bank House, but the Robin Hood Inn shows on this 1850 map (between the L and I of CLIFTON)
