Richard Belcher - m - Elizabeth Price 1759 Berks

Hi Folks,

I wonder if sks could help me please?

I'm looking for the marriage  location for Richard Belcher and Elizabeth about 1760 - 1775ish in Berks.

I have a Rebecca Belcher bapt. 1775 Sparsholt the d/o Richd. & Elizabeth.

Looking on F/S comes up with an entry for Richard Belcher to Elizabeth Price  26-6-1759 in West Challow. Unfortunately this entry does not appear in the West Challow records (which up to 1852 were combined with East Challow) and recorded in the Letcombe Regis register.

I've searched the neighbouring parishes of Goosey, Childrey, Letcombe Regis/Bassett, Wantage, Sparsholt, Stanford in the Vale, Shellingford, Baulking, Uffington,
East/West Hanney and more without success.



Many trees on Anc...y are quoting the same location (West Challow with a firm date as above). Similarly they are saying Elizabeth Price was bapt. 29-1-1738 W/Challow - again I can't find an entry,  but the IGI says the year is 1737 (d/o Thomas & Mary)

So where did the IGI obtain their info from?

If anyone can  help will be most helpful.

The difference is probably between the Julian and Gregorian calendar, depending when the church changed from the former to the latter.

I agree.  Before 1752 the year started on 25 March.  So 29 Jan 1737 would have been 1738 in modern terms.
