Nora.s disappearance flummoxed detectives

Nora was alive 1940 census however 1942 Harris is giving Mable Catherine as his wife so Nora must have died after the 1940 census but before Harris signed up for WWII. 26 April 1942

I did have an awful thought since Harry/Harris Dassele according to family notified John Daulman of her death that he expected John to arrange/pay for the funeral and John thought Harry/Harris was going to arrange/pay and if neither came forward Nora would have become a statistic an unclaimed person.

John H C Daulman remarried 1942 according to your notes do you know exactly when? He may have known his wife was dead.

So he was not with Nora for very long as we have him with wife Leona 1939
& Mabel in 1942

How would you go about finding if there was an unclaimed body at funeral home .

Obituaries of his children are on Ancestry but I dont have extra coverage to read them  as you have found his death date that wouldnt help..

His son Samuel listed his mother Baltimore's address on his WW 2 registration  .

Its very mysterious .

See if anyone has the deaths for Brooklyn 1940 and 1941 perhaps the New York Genealogical Society.

Otherwise you could contact the coroners office for Kings County New York. Make it short and to the point

There are various New York City death indexes online.  https://www.deathindexes.com/newyork/city.html   However, I didn't see any sign of her. 

I didn't see any indication that she married Harris Dassell.  On the 1940 census, Harris and Nora both have a 7 written next to their marital status, which indicates they weren't living with their spouses.  1940 is the most recent US census available, but 1950 is expected to be out in 2022.

You're welcome.  I guess your location might limit what's available.

In case it helps, I found a mention in the Baltimore Sun from 24 Jun. 1941 about Harris & Leona Dassele being involved in a divorce case.  Harris was in the same paper for a criminal court case due a disorderly house in May 1924.  Harris put an announcement in the same paper on 1 Aug. 1924 that he wouldn't be responsible for debts contracted by his wife Mrs. Leona Dassele
