Sorry Carol - missed that link.  With a surname like Wilson there doesn’t seem to be any verification of where his fathers name came from to link him on earlier censuses.  Difficult to find them as a couple on the 1901/1911

I’m wondering if Alice or James died before 1901 hence the children in Hampshire.

Do you have the 1891 marriage cert?  Who were their respective fathers and what were their occupations?

What occupation is shown for James?

The marriage cert would show them as widowed if either was previously married in which case Alice’s father would have a different surname than Woodbridge

In your opening post you say James was born Herts.  Where did you get that info from?

Unfortunately the marriage cert does not appear to be available online

I have found a family tree showing that her father James died before her birth.  Her mother Alice died in 1898.  James and Alice married in June 1891 in Pancras with his occupation being Mason's Labourer and Alice a confectioner.  It appears that there were three, four or five children - James Roland, Lawrence and Rosie May, although possibly another Rowland b. 1893 and one or two Daniel's b. 1897 and d. 1898 and b. 1898.

The "Herts" is from the family tree drawn up by my grandfather (see my profile picture) but might refer to Alice. "ROSALIE MAY WILSON dau of JAMES WILSON by his wife ALICE WOODBRIDGE of Herts".

I would strongly recommend you buy a copy of that 1891 marriage cert.  Apart from an entry in 1891 which obviously has no children with them - there is no further census entry of them together.

Neither James nor Alice's address or occupations in 1891 suggest traveller links

Wilson is a very common surname and unless the tree owner has the marriage cert - how have his parents names been obtained?

James Roland Wilson Dec qtr 1891 Isle of Wight 2b 591 mmn Woodbridge

Son Daniel died Dec qtr 1898 Pancras

Given their location, this may be him:

WILSON, JAMES  ROLAND mmn WOODBRIDGE
GRO Reference: 1891  D Quarter in ISLE OF WIGHT  Volume 02B  Page 591

 ;D ;D I see you added it.

I’ve added the death to my other post.  :)

Jamjar

I see that the daughter of the household Mary Ella Calloway is a governess at a school in 1901.
Maybe that's why the Wilson children are lodging with that family,so they can be schooled by her?
