Catherine Spicer - bapt. 1710c Berks - (mar. Richard Belcher 1734 Stanford)
« on: Friday 18 September 20 06:08 BST (UK) »
Hi folks,
I'm looking for a bapt. of Catherine Spicer about 1710.  She married Richard Belcher 1734 in Stanford, Berks.
Many trees on Anc..y show her bapt. as 31-12-1710 in Stanford (Goosey) but I have the transcript CD from OxfordFHS and nowhere can I see her entry. She is being shown as the d/o Laurence Spicer & Elizabeth and there are many entries in Stanford for the "Spicer's".

However, the BerksFHS latest bapt. CD does not include Stanford-in-the-Vale until about the 1800s and FreeReg does show her either, nor F/S

Can anyone please help?

Hi Mckha489,

Many thanks for your help. I should have stated in my request that the only entry I have found is the one you list.
I have my doubts about this entry as Upton is quite some distance from Stanford-in-the-Vale and being bapt. in 1710 whereas, I have found  a marriage of Laurance Spicer to Elizabeth Clark in West Hendred in 1715 - after her reputed bapt.
(There is also a possible marriage of a Lawrence Spiser to Ann Champe in East Hendred  1675 but I think this entry is too far back).

there was a Lawrence Spicer bapt at Stanford itv in 1716 s/o Lawrence and Elizabeth. So the couple could have moved from Upton to Stanford in the intervening 6 years

And another Lawrence in East Hendred on 28 Jan 1721 - parents same names. Are there two couples called Lawrence and Elizabeth Spicer?

there is a Lawrence Spicer s/o Lawrence and Ann bapt Stanford on 23 Jan 1677, could be the one who married in West Hendred. His mother could be the Ann Champs married 1675 east Hendred

Lawrence and Mary also have a daughter called Merryweather and a son called John Merryweather bapt in Stanford. And on 26 Oct 1689 a Lawrence Spicer (transcribed as Spier[es]) married Mary Merryweather at St Mary le More Wallingford. No mention of status just a transcript on FindMyPast, so don't know if he was a widower but Lawrence jnr would have been too young to marry in 1689.

Laurence and Ann Spicer's first child was Augustine. He died in infancy. Burial record says residence Goosey buried stanford. In "relation" fied of transcript it says lawrence ye younger. So there is an older Lawrence Spicer alive in Stanford in 1677. But is he necessarily the father of Laurence the younger? I had him tentatively as the son of Augustine and Mary bapt EH 30 May 1646.
There is an Augustine died 1698 EH, left a will.
